became known as Fulk's Hall. Over the years the name became corrupted, first to Fulk's Hall then Fawkes Hall, Faulkeshall, Fawkyhall, Faux Hall, Foxhall, Vaux Hall and ultimately Vauxhall. This area was also the site of The Vauxhall Gardens (originally named Vaux Hall Gardens), which became famous throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and it was this area where Alex Wilson set up his Vauxhall marine engineering workshop.

As for Fulk le Breant the virtues of valour and magnanimity were misplaced, it is said that he once arrested a St Albans monk collecting tithes, took the money and put him in stocks at Luton. In 1223 Fulk became involved in an unsuccessful plot by the Earl of Chester to seize the Tower of London. The powerful Church relished revenge and, threatened with excommunication, he surrendered. No longer protected by Royal privilege, King John had been succeeded by Henry III, Fulk was forced to yield his wealth and possessions to the Crown and was exiled to Normandy where he died in abject poverty in 1226. The Fulk's Hall estate was granted by the King to Earl Warenne to hold in trust until Margaret de Redvers son by Baldwin came of age.
